Stallingborough CofE Primary School

Sowing the seeds of excellence; Honouring the dignity of all, Feeling Empowered.

Welcome to Robins Class - Year 1.

In Year 1 we study a variety of different topics, including Animal Kingdom, superheroes and toys to name a few.  We are looking forward to our school trip to Woodside wildlife park in a couple of weeks!

In a normal week, PE days are Monday with Miss Tock and Wednesday with Mr Wood. However, we do ask the children to bring their PE kits in on a Monday and take them home on a Friday just in case there are unplanned changes in the week.

Maths homework is sent out on a Monday and should be handed in by the following Monday. Extra maths activities can be found on School Jam. Weekly spellings are also handed out on a Monday and tested the following Monday. We ask that children should also practise writing their spellings in sentences to develop confidence with writing sentences and ensure they understand the meaning of the spelling words.

Children are expected to read at home at least four times a week. This should be recorded in the reading journal. We encourage children to read a wide variety of texts and any type of reading counts including menus or information boards when out and about.

A normal day in Year 1 consists of Phonics, Maths, English, Handwriting and Topic every day, with a selection of non-core subjects through the week: PE, Science, RE, Music, ICT, History, Geography, PSHE and Art/DT.
